Senate Confirms Mary Boyle As 5th CPSC Commissioner; Agency Now At Full Strength

Nearly a year after she was first nominated, Mary Boyle was confirmed Wednesday to be a Commissioner of the Consumer Product Safety Commission. When she takes office for a term that will run through October 2025, Boyle will bring the Commission to its full five-member strength for the first time since 2019. Boyle has been at CPSC for more than a decade, serving as an attorney in the Office of General Counsel, as General Counsel herself, and currently as the agency’s Executive Director.

Federal Regulators Restrict The Sale Of In-Bed Sleepers And Several Other Infant Sleep Products

Dangerous infant sleepers and other products that aren’t consistent with expert medical advice will no longer be allowed to be sold or marketed for sleep because of a federal rule taking effect today. And the American Academy of Pediatrics has updated its infant sleep guidelines, urging parents to use only sleep products covered by a federal safety standard and to not share their bed with a sleeping infant.
